I
Know I love You When We do Laundry
I know I love you when we do laundry,
Toiling together in the humid shop,
Wearing clothes dug out of the dresser,
Grunting and sweating, stuffing the washers.
Your glistening brow is an angel's halo. As I lean over to kiss your
salty cheek
And your soft brown curl beads a tiny pearl;
So I buy you a drink from the machine.
Sorting and folding, we start a new week
And stack our lives in piles his and hers,
Knowing that soon they'll be in the hamper
Entwined and waiting a chance to come clean.
The love you inspire descends on me soft
Like a blanket fresh out of the dryer.
KTD, for my wife Katie
